9/11, A Flower On The Grave

Like you, I remember vividly what I was doing the morning of September 11th, 2001.  I was thinking about it this morning on my way to work, and the memory is full of negative emotions: anger, disgust, hatred, sadness, fear.  They’re like an open wound.

I tried to look past the negative emotions.  The courage and fortitude of the first responders.  The joy of those rescued from the rubble, and the triumph of their rescuers.  The sympathy of the entire world.  The love of our country and of our fellow Americans that the event fostered.  The amazing strength of those who can forgive.

Where the negative emotions are an open wound, the positive ones are a flower on the grave that is 9/11.  I pray for strength today.
